Ailsa Chapman

I have been painting and drawing for many years, particularly flowers and other botanical subjects, some of which grow at home in my garden or as house plants. I enjoy visiting National Trust gardens and botanical gardens, and going for walks in the countryside, which are also sources of inspiration for my work. To create my works I use a range of traditional and digital media, including coloured and graphite pencils, pastels, acrylic paints and digital painting software such as Corel Painter. I also design and make my own ranges of greetings cards.

After leaving Wimbledon School of Art in 1981, with a Diploma in Graphic Design/Illustration, I worked as a graphic designer initially for printing companies for a few years before moving into the business magazine publishing sector for most of my career. In 2001 I changed direction, went back to being a student, this time studying part-time with the Open University gaining an Honours Degree in Humanities with Art History in 2008. More recently I gained another Diploma with Merit in Botanical Coloured Pencils from the London Art College in 2019.
