Avril Sleeman

Iceland-07Jul17.jpg

Avril Sleeman was born and brought up in Croydon where she attended Old Palace School and studied Art to ‘A’ level. Subsequently attended evening classes in life and portraiture as well as etching and screen printing at Croydon Art School.

Paints landscapes and architectural studies in watercolour, but mainly concentrates on colour and monochrome etching, on a variety of subjects, which she produces at Bromley Adult Education Centre at Kentwood Penge.

She organised a group of artists called ‘Mixed Media’ who exhibited regularly at the Fairfield Halls in Croydon, and other venues in the South East, for over 25 years, and is currently an Associate Member of the Society of Feline Artists.

Although cats feature regularly in her work it is landscape that is her abiding passion. So much so that whilst completing a Masters Degree in 2007 in Rights of Way and Countryside Management her dissertation was on ‘How art informs our view of landscape’.......a wonderful excuse to spend two years researching landscape art history!

A member of The Croydon Art Society since 1982.
