John Lazenby

I’m a self-taught Scottish artist originally from Aberdeen, now living and working in Surrey, England.

From a very young age, I have been deeply passionate about wildlife, nature, and the arts, which have continuously inspired my creative journey.

Over the years, I have explored and worked with a variety of artistic mediums, including both oils and acrylic paints, allowing me to discover and develop my personal style.

I’ve been working with graphite and colored pencils professionally since the 2020 pandemic, and I’m truly passionate about this incredible medium.

Graphite and coloured pencils are so versatile—they can be subtle, vibrant, realistic, and everything in between. During the past 6 years, I’ve been exploring countless techniques, testing new products, and refining my craft to create realistic artwork that reflects my style.

I’m always excited to share what I’ve learned and help other aspiring artists to unlock their own creative potential with colored pencils!

As such, as an artist, I strive to inspire and others to explore the beauty and precision of realistic art through colored pencils, fostering creativity, confidence, and an appreciation for the small details that make art come to life.

On Realism

"Some people do not consider realism to be a true form of art. I respectfully disagree. To me, realism is one of the most demanding artistic disciplines. Every pore, scar, wrinkle, reflection and texture contributes to the truth of the image. If I can see it, I feel compelled to include it. I draw what I see."

On Coloured Pencil

"I love working with coloured pencils, graphite and occasionally charcoal because they allow me to achieve a level of detail that would be difficult for me to replicate with a brush. Living with Parkinson's disease presents challenges, but being able to rest my hand on the drawing surface gives me greater control. These tools allow me to continue creating the highly detailed work that I love."
