Penny Rance
I have always loved art, and perusing galleries, but it was not until recent years where I put paint to canvas and had a go myself. I haven’t looked back since.
I am a self-taught visual artist with no formal training.
One of my dearest passions is the mountains, and the breathtaking scenery in the beautiful Lake District. Since I was a young girl, my family would regularly visit Cumbria to see other family members who lived there, and this was where my passion for the area began. We still visit regularly as a family and, in more recent years, solitary trips for me purely to paint en plein air, and absorb the wonderful surroundings.
I adore nature and often find myself taking hundreds of photographs while out walking with my dog Jasper, often using these as references that I use at home for landscape paintings of local areas.
Another passion of mine is animals. I am fascinated by them, by their colourings, their eyes and wonder what they are thinking… leading again to many photographs when I’m out and about of any creature that capture my eye.
I often work with acrylics for my landscape paintings and usually a mixed media style for my animal pieces, where I often use pastels of various forms or, sometimes, just the humble pencil will suffice.
I enjoy experimenting with different styles and mediums and enjoy working on abstract pieces where I find myself without restrictions, which can be quite liberating !
I am also a member of the Association of Animal Artists.
Please do visit my website www.pennyranceart.com for all my latest news or my Instagram @pennyranceart which will have all the very latest pieces I have been working on.
